Caleb Love is emerging as one of the top rookies following a productive run, and the undrafted guard from Arizona is relishing the opportunity to contribute with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Love, signed to a two-way contract, is averaging 11.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 32.9% from 3-point range in 37 appearances for interim coach Tiago Splitter. He has scored in double figures 20 times, including a career-high 26 points on Nov. 21.

The 24-year-old recorded 20 points, four rebounds and four assists off the bench in a 127-110 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday as the Trail Blazers improved to 23-22. It was his seventh 20-point outing, the sixth-most among all first-year players this season.

“It was a dream to always be at this level and to produce at a high level,” Love said. “My journey has been so up and down, but I’m here now, and I’m just grateful and cherishing every moment.”

Love has upped his production in a major way of late, averaging 16.3 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds on 38.8% shooting from beyond the arc over his last 16 games. He scored at least 10 points in 14 consecutive games over that span, the fourth-longest streak by a rookie this season.

The Missouri native has knocked down the most 3-pointers by any rookie during that span (52), while ranking second in total points (261) and field goals (96). His 74 total 3s are the most ever in a single season by any player signed to a two-way contract.

Love is emerging as a crucial player in the Trail Blazers’ backcourt, providing the team with needed scoring and playmaking nightly. He is pleased with his play of late and welcomes the challenge of replicating it each game.

“I love how many games that we play,” Love said. “You got a game almost every other day so that is kind of something I’ve been loving. You don’t have to dwell on a loss or a bad game too long, so that has probably been the best thing I’ve been going off of.”
