We’ve got less than two weeks until the February 5 NBA trade deadline, and for most of us, that means we’re waiting to see whether the Boston Celtics make a move. For months, Anfernee Simons has been viewed as a sizeable trade chip, especially if Brad Stevens wants to acquire a long-term piece to his puzzle. However, Simons’ recent performances off the bench may have given the front office reason for pause.
Furthermore, Boston has also been floated as a team that’s looking to duck under the luxury tax. After all, Stevens’ moves during the summer were made with cost-cutting in mind. The problem is, Boston can’t add a long-term upgrade and duck under the tax at the same time. It’s an either-or scenario.

The duo floated some high-cost, unlikely names, along with some more realistic targets who make sense for Boston’s current roster needs.
