WATERTOWN – The Brookings basketball teams were swept in a doubleheader against Watertown on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams were supposed to play doubleheaders against Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens but those games were postponed to Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 in Watertown. Brookings and Watertown were supposed to play on Jan. 30 but they moved the doubleheader up to this past Saturday.
The Brookings girls are now 1-7 and host Harrisburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Bobcat boys dropped to 0-8 and play at Harrisburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Girls
Watertown 45, Brookings 40
The Bobcats were outscored 13-6 in the final quarter and that was the difference on Saturday.
Watertown led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. Brookings then outscored Watertown 10-8 in the second and it was 20-20 at halftime. The Bobcats would then outscore the Arrows 14-12 in the third and take a 34-32 lead into the fourth before getting outscored.
Brookings shot 35.4% from the field and was 2-of-15 from three. Julia Burns had 12 points to lead the ‘Cats. She also had six rebounds. Sloan McLagan had 11 points and Taylee Cannot had seven points.
Watertown shot 31.7% from the field and was 7-of-23 from deep. The Arrows were led by Ellie Thury who had 12 points. Jordan Remmers had nine points and Andi Olson and Lily Mack each had six points.
The Arrows had a 35-31 advantage in rebounds. Each team had 20 turnovers. Brookings was 4-of-15 at the free throw line and Watertown was 12-of-20 at the charity stripe.
Boys
Watertown 71, Brookings 38
A rough second quarter plagued the Bobcat boys.
Brookings led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats were then outscored 22-5 in the second quarter and trailed 32-19 at halftime. Watertown then extended the lead to 57-31 by the end of the third and then outscored Brookings 14-7 in the final quarter.Â
The Bobcats shot 26.2% from the field and were 5-of-20 from three. Drew Johnson led Brookings with 14 points. Bergan Tetzlaff had nine points and five rebounds. Noah Lease had eight points.
The Arrows shot 45.2% from the field and were 8-of-25 from beyond the arc. Carter Buisker had 19 points to lead Watertown. Kaden Decker and Jackson McClemans each had 14 points. Jack Mack had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
