Sunday, February 8, could be a very memorable day for Boston sports. It all starts at 12:30 p.m. ET when the Boston Celtics host the rival New York Knicks at TD Garden. A few hours after that 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals rematch ends, the New England Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX at 6:30 p.m. ET in Santa Clara, California.
Ironically, that Super Bowl contest is also a rematch, as the Patriots defeated the Seahawks in dramatic fashion, 28-24, during Super Bowl XLIX back in 2015. While the Celtics’ meeting with the Knicks won’t carry the same weight as a winner-takes-all showdown for a Super Bowl, there’s an extremely significant variable that could impact the gravity of the regular season game.
There’s been plenty of talk regarding the return of Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, who’s missed every game of the 2025-26 campaign due to an Achilles rupture he suffered while facing the Knicks last postseason. The six-time All-Star is looking more and more fluid on the court at shootarounds and practices — and it’s no secret he wants to see the court as soon as possible.

Furthermore, Tatum made it clear that when he does come back, he wants it to be at home. So, why not return on February 8th in front of the Celtics faithful while squaring off with a hated rival?
Well, before New Englanders get too excited, there’s been no official word of when Tatum will play again. The chatter surrounding his return has grown on social media and there are rumblings in the media, yet few likely know which date Tatum has circled on his calendar.
Regardless of Tatum’s timeline, Super Bowl Sunday will be a big day for New England. However, there’s a chance the Celtics superstar makes it a historic one.
