The Brooklyn Nets (12-32) came into this five-game, west-coast road trip hoping to be on the same page after experiencing one of the worst losses in franchise history at the New York Knicks. Brooklyn began their road trip with a tough matchup at the Los Angeles Clippers (21-24) and the Nets weren’t able to recover after losing the first quarter by 24 points.
The Nets lost at the Clippers on Sunday 126-89 and this was one of the worst losses of the season thanks to how Los Angeles came out with some fire to begin the game. Rookie forward Danny Wolf led the way for Brooklyn with 14 points and seven rebounds while rookie guard Egor Demin had 12 points and five assists in the same game that potential All-Star forward Michael Porter Jr. had just nine points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor.
The Nets struggled mightily on both ends of the floor, but they notably struggled to bother Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard as he finished the game with 28 points and five rebounds in just 25 minutes. Brooklyn has four games left on their west-coast road trip so here are the Nets player grades following Sunday’s disappointing loss at the Clippers:
Egor Demin: C-
Demin did not shoot the ball well in this one as was the case for most of his teammates, but he had an impressive spurt of scoring and aggression in the third quarter. Demin has been the subject of some tough love and late-game benchings from head coach Jordi Fernandez, but the hope is that he can find his best form during the course of the west-coast road trip.

Powell remained in the starting lineup for this tough matchup against the Clippers, but he wasn’t able to get on track with his scoring. Powell has had some bright moments over the course of the season when it comes to his offensive firepower, but at this stage of his rookie season, he is still trying to find more consistency with his offensive game to match his defensive impact.
Terance Mann: C
With Noah Clowney out of the rotation due to his back soreness, Mann was able to get back into the starting lineup as the small forward and he had a solid performance against one of his former teams. Mann did a good job of scoring the ball in an efficient manner while also making some plays on the defensive end of the floor in an otherwise disappointing loss for the Nets.
Michael Porter Jr.: D
With Noah Clowney out of the lineup due to injury, Porter started this game as the starting power forward, but it seems that an underwhelming January continues for the potential first-time All-Star. Porter struggled mightily from the field once again and at this point, Brooklyn’s offense looks broken compared to what the unit looked like in December.
Nic Claxton: D
Claxton came into this game with an injury to the pinky finger on his right hand, but Fernandez said prior to the game that his center is still going to play through the pain. Claxton has been better scoring the ball at the basket this season, but it’s possible that his pinky injury had something to do with his subpar shooting. Claxton did a great job of rebounding the basketball and making plays on the defensive end of the floor, but this was a tough loss.
Jalen Wilson: C+
Wilson saw some extended playing time coming off the bench due to Noah Clowney, Cam Thomas, and Nolan Traore being unavailable for various reasons and he made the most of his opportunity to play. Wilson was cold shooting the ball from behind the three-point line, but he did a great job of driving to the rim while giving his best effort on the defensive end of the court.
Ziaire Williams: D
Williams has been having a great January, especially given the fact that he missed some time due to an illness and reconditioning after getting over his illness. With that being said, Williams struggled shooting the ball in this one and while he has showed some improvement in his dribble-drive game, the Clippers seemed to lock down anything going to the rim.
Danny Wolf: C+
Wolf struggled mightily shooting the ball in this one, but it wasn’t from a lack of aggression as he continually took the open three-pointers that came his way while mixing in some drives to the rim as well. Wolf’s offensive potency has been lacking recently, but as long as he can rebound and pass the ball like he did against the Clippers, he should be ready to contribute when the game isn’t in blowout territory for the majority of the game.
Day’Ron Sharpe: B-
Despite this game being a blowout loss for the Nets, Sharpe did a great job of giving his usual effort on both ends of the floor, especially on both backboards. Sharpe did a great job of scoring the ball near the rim, rebounding, and he continually got his hands in the defensive passing lanes, showing how quick his hand-eye coordination is for a guy of his size and strength.
Tyrese Martin: F
With three rotation players out of the lineup for this game at the Clippers, Martin was one of the players that earned playing time, but he struggled mightily shooting the ball from the floor. Martin has had some games where he has been exceptional on both ends of the court, but this wasn’t one of those games and the hope is that he can play better over the course of this road trip.
Ben Saraf: D
Saraf saw his first NBA action since Dec. 6 and his performance as the backup point guard to Egor Demin was uneven to say the least. Saraf did a good job of shooting the ball when driving to the rim, but his ball security lacked, especially whenever he was pressured with a live-dribble. Once fellow rookie Nolan Traore is able to return, Saraf will probably be relegated to the bench.
