The Philadelphia 76ers on Monday signed Charles Bassey to a 10-day contract, bringing back a center they drafted in 2021.

Bassey fills an open roster spot that the team had been carrying all season. It also helps the 76ers avoid usage limits on two-way players Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker without having to sign either to standard contracts. The 76ers had reached their season limit on how many games they could have two-way players active while their roster was at 14 players; signing Bassey brings them to 15 and obviates that limit.

Bassey was the 53rd overall pick for the 76ers in 2021. He played in 23 games that season. The 6-10, 230-pouder has played in 115 games in his NBA career with the 76ers, San Antonio and Memphis, logging two games with the Grizzlies this season. For his career, he’s averaged 11.2 minutes, 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

In 10 games with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League, Bassey has averaged 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

Bassey was assigned to Delaware in the G League. The 76ers can sign him to up to two consecutive 10-day contracts, which will take them past the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline.
