The Dallas Mavericks will be hoisting another number into their rafters this week. Let’s look back at who the team has honored throughout the years.

It was back in October when Mark Aquirre found out that is number 24 will officially retire in the Dallas Mavericks franchise. Here are all the other players that have had their number retired for the Mavericks.

Why Do the Dallas Mavericks Have Number 24 Retired Already?

I do not want to take anything away from Mark Aguirre’s accomplishments as a Dallas Maverick. However, I do find it awkward his number 24 was already never going to be worn again in this franchise. At least that is what Mark Cuban said in 2020. After Kobe Bryant’s death Mark said “Kobe’s legacy transcends basketball, and our organization has decided that the number 24 will never again be worn by a Dallas Maverick.”

Mark Aquirre Highlights as a Maverick

Mark would spend his first eight seasons in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks. He was the team’s number one pick in 1981 and his 13,930 points as a Maverick rank third in the franchise’s history, behind Rolando Blackman’s 16,643 points and Dirk Nowitzki’s 31,560 points. Mark would win back to back championships with the Detroit Pistons after being traded in the middle of the 1989 season.

Who Will Be the Next Dallas Maverick to Have Their Number Retired?

Sports Illustrated ran an article in 2024 of the numbers the Dallas Mavericks should retire. Their number one choice was Mark Aquirre, so they nailed that one. Their second choice was Michael Finley pictured above and Jason Terry pictured below. I am crossing my fingers that one day number 77 gets honored like he should, but we will have to wait and see. F*** you Nico Harrison!
