With a 23-23 record, the Chicago Bulls are considering their options before the trade deadline.

The Bulls want to keep the core young pieces of its team intact. Ideally, Chicago would make a run for the postseason.

However, the Bulls must consider that their roster, only capable of being the ninth-best team in the Eastern Conference in late January, will have seven free agents this summer.

Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu are two key players that are set to test the free agency waters after the season.

Per Evan Sidery, Chicago is “strongly considering” extending Dosunmu this summer. That could mean the Bulls keep him and trade White, a more expensive player to sign in the offseason.

“The Bulls are more likely to trade Coby White than Ayo Dosunmu before the deadline,” Sidery posted on X. “Chicago is strongly considering signing Dosunmu to an extension this summer rather than trading him. White has generated strong interest during trade season from a handful of contending teams.”

Whatever the Bulls do, don’t expect an answer to come too quickly.

On Monday, Chicago head coach Billy Donovan suggested the front office doesn’t have much going on with a week before the trade deadline.

“From (executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas) right now as it relates to real significant movement, it’s been pretty slow,” Donovan said. “There’s nothing that’s really transpired. When you get to this point you’ve always got to have partners in this thing.

“I think Arturas and (general manager) Marc (Eversley), the front office, are going to make decisions that are long-term good things for the organization. He mentioned to me (Monday) that there is just not a lot going on.”

The Bulls need to make something happen.

Chicago is considering trading for a player that can help the Bulls compete for a playoff spot. The Bulls also know that letting White walk away for nothing in free agency would be a waste.

But that hasn’t stopped the Bulls from doing nothing before.
