Buckle up.
The Warriors appear to be in strong contention to land Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in a potential trade before the NBA’s Feb. 5 deadline, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported in an article published Wednesday.
“Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is ready for a new home ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, as several teams have made aggressive offers to the Milwaukee Bucks, who are starting to listen, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday,” Charania wrote.
“The Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors are among the serious suitors for Antetokounmpo, league sources said.”
The interior-dominant Antetokounmpo would be an excellent fit alongside the NBA’s all-time greatest shooter in Steph Curry.
After all, Dub Nation has longed for the “Greek Freak” for years to no avail. But given the Bucks’ murky future, it seems an Antetokounmpo-to-the-Warriors deal is more possible than ever.
“Multiple teams have received a sense that the Bucks are more open than ever to Antetokounmpo offers between now and the deadline, league sources said,” Charania wrote.
“However, Milwaukee has indicated to interested teams that the organization is not in a rush to complete a move and is willing to navigate Antetokounmpo’s future in the offseason if its believed price point of a blue-chip young talent and/or a surplus of draft picks isn’t met, sources said.”
The Bucks could wait until June to part ways with Antetokounmpo after better evaluating draft capital and assets throughout the league.
However, the two-time NBA MVP seems ready to find a new team right now.
“Sources said Antetokounmpo has informed the Bucks for months that he believes the moment has come to part ways after 12-plus years together, making a trade increasingly possible,” Charania said.
“The Bucks, at 18-27 and 12th in the Eastern Conference, face significant questions about their future direction, which has led to open and honest conversations between the two sides.”
Stay tuned — Antetokounmpo might be headed to the Bay.
