Over the last several seasons, when the Golden State Warriors come up in different trade chatter and rumors, the name Giannis Antetokounmpo seems to appear. Multiple reports have linked the Milwaukee Bucks‘ All-Star forward to the Warriors as a potential dream target to pair alongside Steph Curry. However, Antetokounmpo has never appeared to be available for a trade.

Yet, things could be changing. On Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reported Antetokounmpo is “ready for a new home.” According to Charania, several teams have made “aggressive offers” to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, and the Bucks are starting to listen to trade offers.

While it’s yet to be confirmed, the Warriors will likely enter the race for Antetokounmpo like many other teams. A trade to acquire a star of Antetokounmpo’s level will likely be difficult and require a bounty of assets. The Warriors could base an offer around a combination of Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and multiple first-round picks and pick swaps. However, Following his season-ending ACL injury, Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy said he doesn’t envision trading Butler.

Antetokounmpo is a nine-time All-Star and has been named to the All-NBA team nine times in 13 seasons. In 2021, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to their first NBA championship in 50 years. Antetokounmpo is averaging 28 points on 64.5% shooting from the field with 10 boards and 5.6 assists per contest.

The Warriors will have until the Feb. 5 trade deadline to craft a potential deal with the Bucks if Antetokounmpo becomes available.
