Amid the Clippers season turnaround, the team extended their President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank to a four year contract
The Los Angeles Clippers extended President for Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank to a four-year extension, Joe Vardon and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported Jan. 27. The amount the contract is worth is not yet revealed.
The Clippers hired Frank in 2014 as an assistant coach before they promoted to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations on June 30, 2016, and then to President of Basketball operations Aug. 4, 2017. Frank’s peers voted him the NBA Executive of the Year in 2020.
Some of the biggest moves Frank has made during his tenure with the Clippers include signing forward Kawhi Leonard and trading for forward Paul George during the 2019 offseason, promoting then-lead Assistant Coach Tyronn Lue to head coach on Oct. 20, 2020, and trading for guard James Harden on Nov. 1, 2023.
Tyronn Lue, on if he thinks Kawhi Leonard’s career-high 3-point rate has helped Leonard’s ability to get to the line: “Yeah, I think so. Being willing to take more 3s, off-the-dribble 3s, bigs are now running up to him so now he can turn the corner and get downhill.” pic.twitter.com/Nof9rHmc2r

Under Frank, the Clippers have made the playoffs six out of his eight years, only missing them during the 2017-18 season — Frank’s first season — and the 2021-22 season, but they’ve also lost in the first round the previous three seasons.
Frank’s extension comes in the midst of a Clippers season turnaround, as they’ve gone 16-3 in their past 19 games after starting the season 6-21. Leonard is leading the NBA scoring during this period, averaging 31.8 points per game.
