At first glance, this seems a lot like a scheduled rest day for the veteran wing, who has started 44 of the Celtics’ 47 games so far this season. Brown has carried a hefty burden in 2025-26 with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) sidelined, leading the entire Eastern Conference with a 36.6% usage rate. As such, there will be plenty of offensive opportunities available on Friday in his absence.

Derrick White tends to see the largest increase in role with Brown off the floor. In fact, White’s usage rate is a whopping 31.5% when Brown is on the bench, compared to just 20.3% when the two teammates are playing alongside each other. Unsurprisingly, Payton Pritchard also gets a massive usage bump when Brown is unavailable, registering a 27.8% rate in the 354 minutes he’s logged in such a scenario this season. When Brown sat on January 12 against the Pacers, Pritchard led Boston in minutes (37.4) and points (23).

Even with Brown ruled out, the Celtics remain 10.5-point favorites versus the lowly Kings on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
