The Golden State Warriors are reportedly viewed as the front-runner to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade, either ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline or during the summer. The team is expected to be ahead of the New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat in terms of being able to offer a sizeable trade package.

According to NBC Sports’ Kurt Helin, they have the ability to dangle at least four future first-round picks, multiple pick swaps and the Milwaukee Bucks’ choice of young talent in a potential deal. Therefore, their trade offer for Giannis could be the most robust in the league.

“League sources NBC Sports has spoken with lean toward Golden State because it can offer up to four first-round draft picks (ones that could be very valuable after Curry retires, Antetokounmpo fades, and the Warriors struggle). Anthony Slater at ESPN reports the same thing,” Helin reported.

Giannis has been rumored to be unhappy in Milwaukee as the franchise continues to trend in the wrong direction, and, given the Bucks’ lack of maneuverability, they’re now becoming increasingly open to the notion of parting with the greatest player in their franchise history.

Should the Warriors land Giannis, they will be creating a new superstar duo with him and Stephen Curry. The hope would then be that the franchise can place enough high-level pieces around them to compete for championships during the final years of Stephen Curry’s and potentially Giannis’ career.
