LOS ANGELES – Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso showed no signs of tension whatsoever in the moments before they took on the Los Angeles Sparks.

In the days leading up to the Chicago Sky’s matchup with the Sparks in Los Angeles, a video circulated on social media of Cardoso appearing to be fuming with Reese over the latter’s offensive attempts. As a result, fans on social media believed the Brazilian star was openly displaying her disappointment with Reese in some regard – with some saying she was ‘done’.

However, it appeared as if the two Sky stars and their supposed qualms with one another was greatly exaggerated. As the two warmed up for the game in the layup lines, both Reese and Cardoso were matched up with one another and it was clear from that point that each player had not thought much of the situation.

At first, Cardoso handled the ball and passed it off to Reese, and as the two warmed up, the latter flashed a wide smile. The two took a moment to share a quick word after Sky made the layup. On the other end, Kardoso was spotted laughing and generally enjoying herself with her teammates, including Reese.

When the game formally began, Cardoso and Reese’s chemistry appeared to be no worse for wear. As Chicago continued to pass the ball around, it eventually landed in the hands of the Brazilian, with the Los Angeles defense shifting to make sure the 6-foot-7 star did not get an easy look.

Sensing the defensive movement, Cardoso immediately shoveled the ball to Reese, who was waiting on the left side of the basket. Receiving the ball in front of the basket, the 23-year-old missed her first attempt with the defense behind her and after grabbing the offensive rebound, she hit the layup, much to the delight of the Sky fans on hand.

Throughout the first quarter, Reese displayed a sense of urgency as the Sky looked to notch their first win of the season. In their first two games of the season, the Sky lost by a combined 60 points, losing by 35 to Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever and falling to the New York Liberty by 25 in their last game.

Despite how Chicago looked in the early going, it is clear that the team isn’t worried about what the first two games held for the Sky. Speaking exclusively to Mirror U.S. Sports, veteran Kia Nurse spoke on how the team is handling a turbulent start to the season, despite being only two games in.

“Yeah, everything is continuing to go in a positive manner,” Nurse said before the game. “Obviously, tough couple games to start out the season, but we are a new team, there’s a lot of new players, and we’re continuing to get to know one another, play with one another, and I think you’ll come through on that, so we’ll get there.”

Nurse played in Los Angeles last season and shared what the differences were between the two situations. In particular, Nurse explained how the Sparks team she played with last season were much more raw in terms of the players, compared to the Sky.

“Not really, because LA last year was such a younger team compared to the one that this is, so, you know, I think you continue every single game to try and build upon the ones that happened before,” she continued.

“Again, LA this year is more of a newer team, and so I think there’s more parallels there.”

With how the tandem has played against the Sparks, the thoughts of those on the outside don’t appear to be an issue for the two.
