Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is one of the biggest names on the block leading up to the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline. The two-time All-Star should draw significant interest, considering he is just 26 years old and will not be a free agent until 2028.
However, concerns about durability and off-the-court problems have seemingly narrowed the list of potential suitors. On top of that, Morant’s production has declined as he’s shooting a career-low 41% from the field and 23.5% on 3-pointers.
Using the Kalshi promo code MLIVE, customers can try to predict Morant’s next destination by buying contracts on Kalshi.
Ja Morant’s next team probabilities on Kalshi
Morant is in the third year of a five-year, $197.2 million contract that pays him roughly $39.4 million this season. That alone could make it difficult for Memphis to deal the erratic star.
As such, prediction market Kalshi has him at 62% to stay with the Grizzlies — or retire — ahead of the deadline. Still, the franchise continues to entertain offers. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported earlier this month that Memphis is prioritizing draft picks and young players in return for Morant, who is averaging 19.5 points, 8.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 20 games this season.
Further complicating matters is Morant’s inability to stay on the court. Morant returned from a calf injury on Jan. 18 after a six-game absence. After double-doubles in each of his first two games back, Morant is now on the shelf again due to a UCL sprain in his left elbow. The team announced he will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
This comes on the heels of Morant playing a total of only 59 games over the last two seasons because of injuries and suspension.
Here are the latest predictions on Morant’s future team:
Stays with Memphis or retires: 62%
Miami: 13%
Milwaukee: 8%
New Orleans: 8%
If Morant does wind up being traded, Kalshi sees Miami being his most likely suitor. Miami is 25-22 with ample cap space and could use a proven point guard.
The 12-36 New Orleans Pelicans, meanwhile, may view Morant as an asset for the future, while any Milwaukee Bucks moves are likely contingent on Giannis Antetokounmpo being traded.
How do you trade on Kalshi?
Kalshi does not operate like traditional betting sites because there are no Kalshi betting odds.
Instead, Kalshi prices are predicated on market trends where users trade “yes” or “no” contracts. These settle at $1 if the prediction is correct and $0 if incorrect, with prices representing market-implied probability. A $0.55 price, for example, suggests a 55% chance of the event occurring.
Here’s what that means in terms of profit: if you purchase 100 contracts of Morant being traded to Miami at 13% ($0.13 per contract), you will get back $100 for a net profit of $87 if that’s where he indeed lands.
