Despite going into the half tied with UConn on Sunday, Lady Vols basketball nearly made history in the wrong way during the trip to Connecticut. The final score of 96-66 meant a margin of defeat of 30 points. That is the second biggest margin in program history.

The worst margin of defeat was 31 to Texas on Dec. 11, 1984. This loss to UConn now sits alone in second place. The pair of games that were previously tied for second place were 28-point losses to Mississippi State in 2019 and Notre Dame in 2012.

Coming out of the half, the game with the Huskies was knotted up at 42. However, after trading shots early in the third quarter, UConn started to pull away. The Huskies rattled off a 10-0 run before the Lady Vols called a timeout and scored five points out of the break to bring the margin down to four.

That’s when UConn really ran away with it, though. The Huskies went on a 14-0 run to finish the half and take an 18-point lead into the final frame. The fourth quarter was just UConn tying a bow on what was a dominant half.

Next, the Lady Vols stay on the road. Tennessee will face Georgia, which is currently ranked but will likely drop out of the poll, on Thursday, Feb. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and will air on SECN+.

Then, the Lady Vols meet No. 3 South Carolina on the road on Sunday. That game begins at 3 p.m. ET and will air on ABC.
