With countless contentious moments between Dillon Brooks and the Warriors throughout the years, it’s hard to imagine the now-Phoenix Suns wing playing for Golden State.

But it might not have been far from reality during his tenure with the Memphis Grizzlies, Brooks explained to live streamer N3on during a Twitch broadcast.
“The funny part is, when I was on Memphis, they were trying to trade me to the Warriors,” Brooks said. “That’s what was shocking about the hate. The fans don’t know that, but they were trying to trade me to the Warriors.”
It is unclear when exactly the Grizzlies were looking to ship Brooks to the Warriors, but it might have been after the 2022-23 NBA season when Memphis completed a five-team trade that landed Brooks with the Houston Rockets.

In the 2023 offseason, Memphis reportedly showed interest in acquiring Draymond Green before ultimately trading for Marcus Smart. Green considered signing with the Grizzlies in free agency before he signed a four-year, $100 million extension to stay with the Warriors.
Perhaps the Grizzlies were interested in a Brooks-Green swap at some point before free agency began.
Nevertheless, Brooks went on to play two seasons with the Rockets before he was dealt to the Suns in a trade that brought Kevin Durant to Houston.
Brooks now is having a breakout season in Phoenix, averaging 21.1 points per game while shooting 44.8 percent from the field, both career-high marks.
