Season series: Rockets lead 1-0

Houston won 126-119 on Dec. 29 in the first meeting at Toyota Center, although Indiana covered as a 13.5-point underdog as the Over (223.5) cashed. F Kevin Durant went for 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists on 13-of-20 shooting, but he is out due to injury for this one. F Pascal Siakam had 23 points with 8-of-16 shooting for the Pacers.

The Rockets edged the Dallas Mavericks 111-107 Saturday, but they didn’t come close to covering as a 10.5-point favorite as the Under (222.5) cashed. They have won 2 in a row, and 4 of the past 5 games, but they’re just 1-3 against the spread (ATS) in the past 4 outings. Houston is also just 4-12 ATS across the previous 16 contests. The Under has cashed in 5 in a row, 9 of the past 10 outings, and 15 of the previous 17 contests.

The Pacers topped the Atlanta Hawks 129-124 as a 1.5-point underdog last time out Friday, while going 3-1 straight up/ATS in the past 4 games, with the Over also going 3-1 in that span.

Rockets at Pacers picks and predictionsPrediction

Pacers 110, Rockets 104

The PACERS (+200) are worth a roll of the dice for the chance to double up.

Take advantage of the fact Durant and Adams are on the shelf for the Rockets, leaving Houston’s offense shorthanded, and giving Indiana a nice little advantage, especially at home as an underdog.

The PACERS +6.5 (-115) are a good play for conservative bettors who cannot bring themselves to bet Indiana straight up.

Indiana is playing decent basketball lately, winning 3 of the past 4 games, while also going 3-1 ATS in that span. On the flip side, Houston is 1-3 ATS in the past 4 games, and 2-5 ATS in the past 7 road contests. And, again, there’s no KD and Adams.

The UNDER 219.5 (-110) is a strong play in Monday’s game.

Houston will be without Durant’s team-best 26.2 points pper game, so who will step up in his absence? And, the Rockets will have difficult getting second chances, as Adams is second on the team with 8.6 rebounds per game.

In addition, the Under has cashed in 5 in a row for Houston, 9 of the past 10 games, and 15-2 in the previous 17 outings. For Indiana, the Under has a 4-3 edge in the past 7 games, while the total has gone low at a 9-4 clip in the previous 13 contests.
