Sunday night’s matchup in Denver marked the first meeting between the Thunder and Nuggets since Oklahoma City knocked Denver out of the playoffs last May and once again, the Thunder set the tone early and never gave it back.
Cason Wallace jump-started the offense with a left-wing three in the opening quarter, a sign of what was coming. Oklahoma City stayed aggressive throughout the first half, highlighted by a chaotic second-quarter sequence when Aaron Wiggins missed a three, Kenrich Williams corralled the loose ball, scored through contact and added the foul.
Denver made its push in the third quarter, feeding off the home crowd and cutting the deficit to 74–71. That’s when Oklahoma City responded with its most important stretch of the night. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spun into the lane and found Chet Holmgren in the corner for a timely three to stop the rally. Moments later, Wallace knocked down back-to-back threes, followed by triples from Gilgeous-Alexander, Wiggins and J Will, turning a tight game into a commanding Thunder advantage.
Reporting from Denver, Thunder reporter Steve McGehee noted the importance of that third-quarter run, pointing to Oklahoma City’s defense and shot-making as the difference. The Nuggets’ All-Star duo was held in check, and Denver never truly threatened down the stretch.
Gilgeous-Alexander put the finishing touch on the win with a tough jumper plus the foul late, sealing a 121–111 road victory. The Thunder improved to 39–11 on the season and now return home to face Orlando on Tuesday with momentum firmly back on their side.
