Myles Turner

The Milwaukee Bucks are facing an NBA trade deadline period that will alter the future trajectory of their franchise. The team has had its depth tested, and have seen their defense perform as one of the worst units in the Eastern Conference. Both factors have led to the Bucks’ current 18-29 record.

*Prediction*

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future remains unclear. The Bucks could either trade him for immense assets, or build around him. If they decide to go the route of building around him, Myles Turner becomes the next best player for Milwaukee to trade.

If they decide to trade Turner, the Atlanta Hawks make sense to be the team to acquire him.

Atlanta Hawks Receive: Myles Turner

In the offseason, the Bucks signed Turner on a four-year, $108.87 million deal in hopes that he and Giannis Antetokounmpo would create a dominant duo. That has not worked out as the Bucks had hoped, and instead of trying to win-now, the Bucks now need to make moves at the trade deadline to build for the future.

One of their biggest needs is to acquire draft capital to get younger as a team. Turner can get them that value back in return, and the team that has the draft capital to make this possible is the Atlanta Hawks.

Currently, the Hawks sit with a 24-27 record, firmly in the race for a Play-In spot in the Eastern Conference. They moved on from Trae Young, and have made it clear they want to build around Jalen Johnson. Trading for Turner would be a way they accomplish this.

Myles Turner would provide the Hawks with the 3-and-D ability that they have been needing. Turner’s offensive impact, paired with the playmaking ability of Johnson, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker would help on that side of the ball.

Then, his rim protection would pair well with the length and athleticism that Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Zaccharie Risacher provide.

So far this season, Turner has averaged 12.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assist per game with the Bucks, a team that hasn’t utilized him correctly. On the Hawks, his skills would be back on full display, making this ideal for both sides.
