If Draymond Green is traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, that might not be where the Warriors star ultimately finishes the 2025-26 NBA season.

Golden State’s veteran forward reportedly is in the team’s trade offer to the Bucks for two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and if he is dealt to Milwaukee in a potential blockbuster deal before Thursday’s 12 p.m. PT deadline, he could be rerouted elsewhere.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst joined “Get Up” on Wednesday and discussed what could unfold with Green if he ends up being traded to Milwaukee in a deal that lands Antetokounmpo in the Bay Area.

“If he were traded, his plan would not be to remain in Milwaukee; he would want to moved on,” Windhorst said. “A team that would be possible if he were traded — and I can’t emphasize the number of ‘ifs’ I’ve said enough before I say this — the Los Angeles Lakers would be a team he would have interest in, and they would have interest in him. But that would require the Bucks to take action on Giannis.”

It should come as no surprise that Green could try and force his way to the Lakers if he is traded from the Warriors, since he and superstar LeBron James are very close friends, and he has expressed interest in one day teaming up with the 22-time All-Star in some capacity.

Regardless of whether he’s moved before Thursday’s deadline or not, the Warriors have made it clear by including Green in trade packages that they are ready to move on from him for the right opportunity, and the right opportunity could come around again in the offseason.

“What I think is interesting is [the Warriors] have crossed the Rubicon here with Draymond Green,” Windhorst added. “If he is not traded by tomorrow, it would not surprise me if these talks were revisited in the summer in the last year of his contract. Whether it would be in another Giannis offer or somewhere else, I think that’s where we’re getting to in this story.”

It appears that Green’s time with the Warriors could be coming to a close, whether that’s over the next 24 hours, in the next six months or in the coming year or two.

And when it does, regardless of how it happens, there is no doubt that he and the team will be proud of what they accomplished together.
