The Philadelphia 76ers got back in the win column on Saturday with a 109-103 win over the Phoenix Suns. The win allowed Philadelphia to bounce back from a loss to the Lakers in its previous game and the Sixers are now 3-1 on this road trip with one final game on Monday in Portland.
Joel Embiid led the way for Philadelphia with 33 points and nine rebounds, Tyrese Maxey added 29 points, six assists, and nine rebounds, and Kelly Oubre Jr. added 18 points and six rebounds. The Sixers received six points and four rebounds from Dominick Barlow and Trendon Watford had six points and seven rebounds.
Here are the three biggest takeaways following the win over the Suns:
Sixers playing with force
A big difference in this game was the way each team played. The Suns were settling for 3-pointers—on a night where they struggled mightily in that department—and the Sixers were getting into the paint and creating easy baskets. Philadelphia was able to get everybody involved on the offensive end while Phoenix struggled to find an offensive rhythm due to its poor shot selection throughout the night. It was really the big difference in this one. The Suns shot just 11-for-46 from deep and 40% on the night while the Sixers shot 47% from the floor.

This continues to be a regular occurrence at this point, but Embiid really is beginning to look like himself again. The 2023 MVP winner continues to put on a show as he did on Saturday against the Suns. There truly was nothing Phoenix could do other than to hope that he missed. He was either knocking down a tough shot or getting to the free-throw line as he put the Suns away in the fourth with tough shot after tough shot. It’s impressive to see Embiid continue to take these big steps forward to get back to where he has been in his career.
Oubre the X-Factor
The versatile forward stepped up and made a lot happen for Philadelphia. He was a pest defensively to give the Suns problems on the perimeter. He was helpful on the glass and he knocked down some big shots on the offensive end of the floor. When the 11-year veteran out of Kansas is focused as he was in this one, then he makes a real difference for the Sixers. He is somebody who produces in a number of different areas and he did so against Phoenix on Saturday night. He also was able to mix it up with Dillon Brooks who was his roommate at Findlay Prep high school in Nevada.
