A former Celtics guard is getting a comeback chance in the NBA after a big roster shakeup following the trade deadline. The Clippers signed Dalano Banton to a 10-day contract this weekend to fill an open roster spot following trading away starters James Harden and Ivica Zubac last week.
The Toronto native spent half a year in Boston during Boston’s 2023-24 championship season before being dealt away to the Portland Trail Blazers at the trade deadline in 2024. He spent two seasons in Portland but has been without an NBA team this season after the Mavericks cut him during training camp.
After putting up some big numbers in the G-League in Dallas, Banton is now getting a chance with a Clippers squad that suddenly has a void on the roster. New trade addition Darius Garland is sidelined until the All-Star Break after being acquired for Harden so Banton should provide some extra depth in the backcourt until he’s made available.
Banton made his debut for the Clippers on Sunday afternoon as he scored two points in four minutes during a 115-96 rout over the Timberwolves. He’s averaged 6.8 points and 2.0 assists per game during his career after being drafted by the Raptors at No. 46 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.
