With the boys basketball postseason on the horizon — Section 1-1A and 1-2A games begin in two weeks — here is a breakdown of the top 10 performers in the area in the past month through Feb. 7.

Luke Friese, Schaeffer Academy

The Schaeffer Academy senior has been lights out for the Lions this season, averaging 29 points per night over the past month. Friese broke his own school record for points scored in a game with 45 in a win against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Jan. 8.

The 6-foot-5 senior and Virginia Tech football commit has once again been a star on the basketball court for the Cobras (20-3) this winter. Petersohn dropped 43 points as Triton cruised to an 82-38 victory against United South Central on Jan. 22. In the past month of the season, he has averaged about 33 points per game. As good a shooter as Petersohn is, he also excels at grabbing rebounds, often recording double-doubles.

Gavyn Lorenson, Lake City

This junior’s name is almost guaranteed to pop out on the box score every game as he averages 29 points a night. Lorenson recently had two 33-point games for Lake City against Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Randolph, and racked up 39 points against Kasson-Mantorville on Feb. 6.

Roschen is another player who is almost always at the top of the scoring chart for the 20-1 Wildcats, averaging more than 25 points per game in the last month. The senior and Southwest Minnesota State University commit had a 36-point performance as Goodhue beat Byron in historic fashion 109-78 on Feb. 5. The No. 1-ranked Wildcats beat the program’s single-game scoring record with that victory.

The junior has recently broken a few school records for the Eagles, including the 50-point night he had in a 98-91 victory over Rushford-Peterson on Jan. 15. He also finished that game with eight 3-pointers and is averaging more than 22 points per game since the beginning of January.

Carson Harstad, Chatfield

The junior is in the midst of a breakout season for the Gophers, putting up more than 23 points each game in the last month. He recorded seven 3-pointers and totaled 31 points against Fillmore Central on Jan. 8. Harstad notched seven more 3-point baskets en route to 27 points in a win over Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Feb. 6.

Nicholas Taylor, Lanesboro

The junior is producing just more than 23 points per game for the Burros since the start of January and recently contributed 31 points during a 73-51 win over Lyle/Austin Pacelli on Feb. 5. Thanks to Taylor’s leadership, Lanesboro is 17-3 this season.

Goergen is a key part of No. 7-ranked Southland’s success. The senior dropped 34 points in a 95-57 win against Schaeffer Academy on Feb. 7 for the 20-1 Rebels. He also had 26-point games versus Wabasha-Kellogg on Jan. 13 and Mabel-Canton on Jan. 17.

Brooks Rechtzigel, Cannon Falls

The sophomore has had three 24-point performances and is averaging just more than 19 points per game in the past month for the Bombers, who are 16-5 overall. Those top performances came during wins over Kasson-Mantorville, Randolph and Pine Island.

Loos is an essential part of Goodhue’s offense, and it was evident when he was missing from the lineup in the Wildcats lone loss of the season, against Winona Cotter. The sophomore has averaged just fewer than 20 points per game in the past month. One of his best came during the team’s historic win over Byron when he racked up 32 points.
