For all the Easter eggs within Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday, there was one special shoutout some Dallas Mavericks fans may have missed.

In a show honoring the heritage of Puerto Rico and its people, Bad Bunny at one point went back to 2022, singing “El Apagon,” a song which features a lyric about two NBA champions.

Which translates to: “And Barea, the one who became champion before LeBron.”

J.J. Barea, a Puerto Rico native, played a key role in the Mavericks’ 2011 championship win over LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

James, a legendary NBA player in his own right, did not win his first championship until the following season.

The Dallas Regional Chamber’s annual event also served as an introduction for its new president, Brad Cheves.
