It’s a new era for Trayce Jackson-Davis

In his first game with the Raptors after being traded from the Warriors, Jackson-Davis made an impact for Toronto in its 122-104 win over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

In just 16 minutes played, the 25-year-old center notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He also recorded one steal and one block.

He was quick to give props to his new teammates for having his back in his Raptors debut.

“That’s a really, really good crew in there,” Jackson-Davis told reporters after the game. “You could see during the game they were hyping me up every time I made a play, giving me a lot of confidence. So, I’m happy to be here, I’m happy to be a part of the team.

“One of the assistant coaches came up to me and said, ‘At the end of the day, it’s just basketball; just go out there and play,’ and so that’s what I did.”

Eight of Jackson-Davis’ rebounds were on the offensive side. The Raptors finished the game with 15 more second-chance points than the Pacers.

“Can always have a knack for rebounds, whether it be offense or defense. Just crash the glass; that was a big thing at halftime,” Jackson-Davis noted. “[Raptors coach Darko Rajaković] said that we were minus-one or two on the glass, so just getting in there and trying to make an impact any way I can, and that’s what I did.”

Jackson-Davis had a fluctuating role this season for Steve Kerr and the Warriors. It’s unclear if that will change in Toronto, but an injury to Raptors center Collin Murray-Boyles opened up minutes for Jackson-Davis on Sunday.

“It’s a blessing, honestly. Going from a team like Golden State, a winning organization, and coming here to another winning organization is great,” Jackson-Davis said. “I can’t complain, it’s a really good crew here…

“…I’m just happy to be here, happy to get to work. Obviously, the travel and everything, I’m a little tired, but I’m going to get back into playing shape and be ready to go.”

It will take some time for Jackson-Davis to get acclimated, but if Murray-Boyles is sidelined for an extended period, Jackson-Davis likely will get some more looks on the court before the All-Star break.
