The Boston Celtics are doing surprisingly well without Jayson Tatum in the lineup.

The 2024 NBA champions have won five of their last six games, boast a 34-19 record, and are only 5.5 games back from the No. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Still, there’s no denying that Tatum, who’s still recovering from an Achilles injury suffered last May, would take Boston’s 2026 championship hopes to an elevated level.
On Tuesday, the Celtics received major news regarding Tatum’s injury status in early February.
“I’m feeling good,” Tatum said following a practice with Boston’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
“It was good to be a part of the practice yesterday with the Maine G-League guys. Today is 39 weeks, so it’s been a long journey. It’s just the progression of rehab; it was the next step, it doesn’t mean I’m coming back, or I’m not. It was just another step further. “I just know that I feel a little bit better every day, and I just try to focus on that.”

Tatum’s injury update is undoubtedly encouraging for the Celtics. If Boston is already thriving with Tatum sidelined, imagine what the franchise can accomplish when it finally unites Jaylen Brown with his superstar teammate.
At this rate, holding Tatum out until the postseason would be the most logical decision, as it would allow the NBA champion forward to get closer to 100% before returning to action.
Tatum averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists with the Celtics last season, shooting 45.2% from the field and 34.3% from three-point land. It’s safe to say the vibes are relatively high in Boston right now.
