Toronto Raptors forward Brandon Ingram was rightfully recognized for his impressive season on Tuesday.

Ingram, who was acquired in a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans just over a year ago, has arguably been the Raptors’ best player this season and was named to the All-Star Game as an injury replacement for Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry.

Ingram, who is averaging 22 points through 52 games this season, was mobbed by his teammates and head coach Darko Rajakovic after the announcement had been made.

Afterward, Rajakovic informed reporters that despite originally planning on having a 45-minute practice, it came to an end after the celebration.

“I brought the team together and we really celebrated it for the moment,” Rajakovic said. “We didn’t have good conditions to finish the practice after that, so I cancelled the rest of the practice.”

This will mark the second All-Star appearance for Ingram, who also had the honour of representing the Pelicans back in 2020. He will join Rajakovic as well as Scottie Barnes at this year’s game, which will take place in Los Angeles this Sunday.

“Being an All-Star today is an amazing accomplishment. To God be the glory,” Ingram said. “I’m thankful for it, and it’s another accomplishment in my book.”

Thanks in large part to Ingram’s play, the Raptors sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 32-22 record. They have one final game before the All-Star break, which will come on Wednesday night versus the Eastern Conference best Detroit Pistons.
