As the first quarter progressed, both teams kept it close, but the Knicks managed to edge ahead of the Suns just before the second quarter. Westchester then kicked it into gear, extending their lead to as many as 11 points in the first half while holding the Valley to just 19 points in the second quarter.

Despite the deficit and being held under 20 points in the second, the Suns kept it competitive, trailing 56-47 at halftime.

The Valley went into its own offensive surge and took the lead midway through the third quarter. It didn’t take long for the Knicks to get their pace back, regaining their footing and taking an 81-70 lead.

The Knicks opened up another double-digit lead, but were limited from beyond the arc. It came down to the final seconds of the game, with the Valley in possession of the ball before Damion Baugh sank in a go-ahead shot from three to give the Suns the lead.

While Westchester had the final possession, Pacome Dadiet couldn’t connect with a three-pointer of his own as the Suns rebounded to drain the clock.

“It was obviously a good win,” head coach Paul Jesperson said postgame. “Kind of a unique period for us because we had that little break in between our last game… So we were able to get two really good practices in, which you don’t always get to go five-on-five, some of that stuff at this time of the year.”

Baugh led the scoring for the Valley with 29 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Jaden Shackelford and RJ Nembhard Jr. had 22 points each in the victory.

The Valley Suns now look towards their next challenge, taking on the Salt Lake City Stars on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 12 p.m.
