Tessa Torres-Hoffman | Onward State

Penn State men’s lacrosse attacker Liam Matthews was named to the All-NCAA Tournament Team after scoring nine goals in three games.

Matthews, a sophomore, had four goals against Colgate in the opening round and Cornell in the semifinals, while scoring one goal and adding an assist in the quarterfinal round against Notre Dame.

Despite Penn State having its season ended in the Final Four in an 11-9 loss to the Big Red, Matthews netted two behind-the-back goals as part of his four-goal performance.

The Ontario native was the only Nittany Lion to be named to the All-Tournament team, with the other nine coming from Cornell and Maryland, the two teams that squared off in the national championship game.

Penn State finished the season with a 12-5 record after reaching the national semifinals for the second time in three years.
