The buyout market is an avenue for the Philadelphia 76ers to add to their roster as they look to boost their roster in an effort to contend in the wide-open Eastern Conference. Led by the star duo of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey–plus Paul George when he returns from suspension–the Sixers will look to make a deep run in the playoffs.
The Sixers were quiet at the deadline as they just shipped out Jared McCain and Eric Gordon in order to create some roster spots to convert two-way player Dominick Barlow to a standard deal and to add at the deadline. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey will now look to the buyout market to add to his roster for the future.
HoopsHype took a look at some previous buyout market success stories. For the Sixers, there were two names on the list:
Marco Belinelli
The Sixers needed a shooter to space the floor for the offense to operate. Belinelli was the perfect player to add in that respect as he was a player not afraid of any moment and was willing to take any shot available. He averaged 12.9 points off the bench for Philadelphia in the 2018 playoffs and gave the Sixers a big lift.

HoopsHype on Belinelli:
The Philadelphia 76ers had arguably the most successful buyout season ever when they picked up Italian guard Marco Belinelli and the following player on this list merely 16 days apart back in 2018.
After being bought out by the Atlanta Hawks in 2017-18, Belinelli would join Philadelphia and get Sixth Man of the Year votes averaging 13.6 points and shooting over 38 percent from three as a member of the Sixers. Belinelli helped the team reach the second round of the playoffs.
Ersan Ilyasova
A big addition to Philadelphia’s bench unit in 2018, Ilyasova was able to give this group some much-needed shooting and stretch 4 capabilities. He had 17 points off the bench in Philadelphia’s Game 1 victory for the Miami Heat in 2018 as he shot 7-for-15 overall and 3-for-4 from deep.
HoopsHype on Ilyasova:
Likewise bought out by the Hawks, floor-spacing big man Ersan Ilyasova, like Belinelli, would join Philadelphia from the 2017-18 buyout market.
Ilyasova would average 10.8 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 36.1 percent from three for the 76ers as the team got to Round 2 of the playoffs.
