Kawhi Leonard is one of the greatest NBA players to play in the league recently.

Injuries have prevented us from seeing him regularly in action, so he might not seem as talented a player as he really is, but those who have seen him during his prime understand how dangerous he was.

One of Leonard’s best seasons in the NBA was in 2018-19, when he led the Raptors to their first title, in his first and only season with the team.

However, one NBA insider suggests that the sole season might not have been his last there, despite it appearing that way at the time.

NBA insider suggests a Kawhi Leonard-Raptors reunion ‘is a scenario we could see play out’

In NBA insider Brett Siegel’s latest piece, he talked about Kawhi Leonard’s future.

Before that came a breakdown of how certain decisions and events transpired in the Clippers organization at the deadline, as they traded away James Harden and Ivica Zubac.

Siegel then moved on to the topic of Leonard, mentioning that he could be available in trade talks this summer, with interest from teams expected, especially as he’s on an expiring contract worth $50.3 million for the 2026-27 season.

If he were to become available, it appears several teams would inquire about what it would take to add the 34-year-old to their team.

Siegel compared this offseason’s situation as very similar to what we saw with Leonard when he was traded from San Antonio to Toronto in the 2018 offseason.

“Something similar could happen with Leonard this upcoming offseason. Maybe, just maybe, a return to the Raptors to compete for another championship is a scenario we could see play out,” said Siegel.

Even though these talks could start in a few months from now, a lot of what will happen obviously depends on how the rest of the season unfolds for the Raptors and other teams.

The Raptors have a talented young core at the moment, and there doesn’t seem to be a reason to shake it up, but that could change in a few months.

Reports suggested the Raptors were trying to make a splash at the recent trade deadline for a player like Domantas Sabonis, and they could bring the same type of aggressive mentality into this offseason.

Putting an experienced winner like Leonard into a young Raptors rotation could be what the team needs to make the next jump.

The fans would certainly love to have Leonard back, as he had such a large impact on the entire city during his one year there.

Anyway, Leonard is nearing the tail end of his career and might see Toronto as a place where he can have more success compared to Los Angeles.

Leonard has already shown signs of progression when it comes to health, playing in 40 games to this point. That’s already more than how much he played last season.

In those 40 games, he’s averaging 27.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals.
