Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia made sure to remind Bill Simmons about The Ringer founder’s preseason prediction that the Suns would not win at least 32 games this season.

Not only did the Suns back up Ishbia’s talk, they did so ahead of this year’s NBA All-Star break and with 28 games to spare following Tuesday’s win over Dallas.

Naturally, Ishbia let Simmons hear all about it.

“Thirty-two wins for the Suns and all before the All-Star break,” Ishbia posted on X. “Think that puts us above your season prediction/bet of under 31.5 wins Bill Simmons! You guys usually have great content and good stuff. Thanks for all you do. But also keep your eye on the Suns, like I told you, we have a different culture and team in PHX these days. We still have a long way to go but we are working hard to get there. Go Suns!”

It only took 30 minutes for Simmons to fire back a response in which he praised the Suns and new coach Jordan Ott for exceeding expectations.

He also made sure to throw in a jab about last year before hitting send.

“Congratulations on a very good season so far,” Simmons posted. “I’ve enjoyed watching you guys and think you picked a terrific coach. Fun League Pass team. For the record — I picked the Suns to win 50+ games last season and never heard a peep from you when you went 36-46. So, I was wrong twice.”

The banter on Wednesday stemmed from an October back-and-forth between the two over The Ringer predicting Phoenix would have the NBA’s worst defense.

“Bill Simmons, you and your crew have some good takes and some that are terrible,” Ishbia posted on X. “You’re the betting guru and even you know better than to actually take this bet. Tell you what, go put your money on this take. When you lose, I will donate the same amount to charity of your choice. Different culture and different team in PHX this year. Let’s go!”

And like what we saw on Wednesday, Simmons didn’t leave him on read. That’s when the win total got thrown in as a potential wager between the two.

“To be fair — this was from a Ringer piece called ‘Increasingly Bold Predictions,’” Simmons responded. “My only Suns pick was UNDER 31.5 wins just FYI. Happy to wager on that. But you’re an NBA owner and you’re not allowed to bet? Maybe we should just bet Aspiration stock.”
