The Bucks reportedly prepared a package for Morant centered around Ryan Rollins, but the Grizzlies are unwilling to absorb either of Kyle Kuzma’s or Bobby Portis’ contracts.

As it is, Ja Morant finds himself staying put in the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite the franchise’s desperate attempts to finally ship him out, the name of the embattled guard didn’t emerge on the league’s full list of transactions finalized last Thursday.
The Milwaukee Bucks have been one of the rumored teams linked to Morant before the trade deadline buzzer. But in the end, nothing happened.
Apparently, the Bucks attempted to make a pitch for Morant, but the Grizzlies are reportedly uninterested in their package, according to Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.
“According to league sources, trade discussions with the Bucks centered around guard Ryan Rollins, but Milwaukee also wanted to include the contracts of Kyle Kuzma or Bobby Portis, which Memphis had no interest in taking on,” Azarly wrote in his report.
Ryan Rollins has been rolling as one of the league’s early Most Improved Player candidates, averaging a career-high 16.9 points, 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds.
But the Bucks’ desire to attach Kyle Kuzma or Bobby Portis appears to be the deal-breaker for Memphis, as the two are earning significantly and have more years left beyond 2025-26 in their current deals.
As a rebuild looms for Memphis upon the blockbuster Jaren Jackson Jr. trade, time will be the only truth-teller about Morant’s future with the Grizzlies.
