As they get ready for the upcoming NBA season, the Dallas Mavericks are expected to make some major roster changes. The Mavericks might think about dealing forward P.J. Washington to increase squad depth since they have the chance to select Duke standout Cooper Flagg after winning the NBA draft lottery. Cooper Flagg, a 6-foot-9, versatile athlete, is anticipated to play in the frontcourt alongside Dereck Lively II and Anthony Davis. There has been conjecture on Washington’s future with the squad as a result of this development. Washington is probably going to be made available in the trade market this summer, according to Forbes’ Evan Sidery.
Last season, Washington, who has been a standout player since joining the Mavericks, shot 38.1% from outside the arc and averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He is a desirable option for teams trying to bolster their lineups as he enters the last year of his three-year, $46.5 million contract.
To fill the point guard position, the Mavericks are also pursuing two-time NBA champion Jrue Holiday as part of their offseason plans. Holiday may give the Mavericks much-needed backcourt stability as Kyrie Irving recovers from a season-ending ACL injury. The Mavericks are considering a trade for Holiday, who has two years left on his contract and is worth $32.4 million for the upcoming campaign, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
Following Luka Dončić’s recent departure, the Mavericks want to increase both their depth and overall effectiveness. The Mavericks are setting themselves up for a competitive season by pursuing Jrue Holiday and possibly moving P.J. Washington.
