MILWAUKEE (WLUK) — Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers is a finalist for election to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2026 class.

The team announced the news Wednesday.

Rivers is a first-time finalist. He’s currently the winningest active head coach in the league and sits at sixth in all-time wins among NBA head coaches. His career has taken him all across the country, leading the Orlando Magic (1999-03), Boston Celtics (2004-13), LA Clippers (2013-20) and Philadelphia 76ers (2020-23) prior to coming to Milwaukee during the 2023-24 season.

In 2022, Rivers was selected as one of the 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA history by a panel of 43 current and former NBA head coaches, in collaboration with the National Basketball Coaches Association.

Bucks legend Marques Johnson was also named a finalist for the Veterans Committee.

A three-time All-NBA honoree and five-time All-Star selection, Johnson was selected third-overall by Milwaukee in the 1977 NBA Draft. He played in 691 career games in 11 seasons with the Bucks (1977-1984), leading the team to the playoffs six times, including two Eastern Conference Finals appearances.

Johnson ranks among Milwaukee’s all-time leaders in several statistical categories and became the ninth player in Bucks history to have his jersey retired. He now serves as a TV analyst with Milwaukee.
