MORAGA, Calif. — Pepperdine men’s basketball (6-20, 1-12 WCC) was defeated by a score of 88-60 on the road at Saint Mary’s (22-4, 11-2 WCC) Wednesday night in Moraga.

The Gaels shot 50-percent from the floor and went 13-for-25 from three-point distance to pull away offensively, earning their 24th-straight home victory.

Aaron Clark was the lone Wave to finish in double figures in scoring, registering 18 points on the night while accounting for three of Pepperdine’s seven made three-pointers.

Stefan Cicic logged a career-high five blocks on the defensive end to anchor the Waves, to go along with four points and five rebounds. Styles Phipps had a team-best six rebounds and five assists to go with seven points.

“We were down four with eight minutes to play in the first half and we missed a couple shots and turned the ball over,” noted head coach Ed Schilling. “Saint Mary’s being the very good team that they are, playing at home, capitalized on those mistakes and broke the game open. We couldn’t get back into it after that run to end the half.”

The Waves and Gaels traded blows for the majority of the first half before Saint Mary’s built up a double-digit lead late.

Clark and Yonatan Levy each hit on their first attempts from three early on, with Levy’s triple giving the Waves an 11-10 lead just over five minutes in.

Luka Vudragovic provided scoring off the bench for the Waves with seven points on the night, hitting his first look from three which made it an 18-16 game with 10:32 to go in the half. A Vudragovic layup made it 24-20 in favor of the Gaels with 7:32 left.

After starting 1-for-5 from deep, the Gaels found their shooting stroke and hit seven of their next eight in the half and went 10-for-16 total before the break.

The three-point barrage saw Saint Mary’s go on an extended 17-1 run into the closing minutes of the half, as the Waves went cold at 3-for-14 from distance.

Cicic was strong at the rim for the Waves with three blocks and five boards at the break, but the Gaels took a 48-29 lead into the locker room.

Saint Mary’s maintained its lead throughout the second half, eventually outscoring the Waves 40-31 in the final 20 minutes.

Clark had seven of the opening nine points in the half for the Waves on his way to matching the Gaels’ Paulius Murauskas to their game-high 18-point outputs. Clark’s third three of the game made it a 64-43 game with 13:05 remaining.

Saint Mary’s embarked on a 10-0 run right after, with three-straight baskets from Andrew McKeever extending the lead to a game-high 31.

The Waves chipped back away with back-to-back buckets off turnovers from Javon Cooley and a threes from David Mager and Pasha Shemirani in the closing minutes, eventually falling 88-60.

The Gaels earned the season-series sweep over the Waves with the victory.
