Morgan Rossi netted 27 points to lead Verona to a 59-44 win over Belvidere in Verona.
Rossi was one of three players to score in double figures for Verona. She was joined by Taylor McClain and Jada Bednar who each finished with 11 points on the day.
“This was big for us,” McClain said. “We have a four-game week. We just beat Newark Academy and we knew we had to come back strong again today. They were a big, tall team.”
Verona (14-5) took a commanding 19-7 in the first quarter and was up 28-17 at halftime, but 11-9 Belvidere stormed back in the third quarter to cut into its deficit.
Natalie Sroka, who took nearly all of Belvidere’s shots, scored 15 of the County Seaters’ 17 points in the third. She bucketed 32 points in all with two 3-pointers.
Verona, which already defeated Newark Academy on the road on Tuesday, 48-40, has a monster game coming up on Friday at Columbia.
Columbia is 15-6 overall and 8-0 in the Super Essex Conference Liberty Division. Verona is a game behind at 7-1.
Columbia has already defeated Verona twice this season, 51-47, in the season opener, and 58-45 in the Essex County Tournament.
Verona also has a game against Glen Ridge on Saturday to cap a busy week.
“Big week for us,” Rossi said. “This was a nice win. We knew that Belvidere was a big team with size. This win boosted our confidence for when we play Columbia and Glen Ridge.”
