Thunder’s preferred matchup: Clippers or Nuggets?

For The Hoops crew discuss whether the Thunder would prefer to face the Clippers or Nuggets in the second round of the NBA playoffs

Playoff Jamal Murray was activated in the Denver Nuggets‘ Game 5 win over the Los Angeles Clippers and now the 2023 NBA champions are one win away from advancing to the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

Murray exploded for 43 points (17-of-26 FG, 8-of-14 3PT, 1-of-1 FT) in the Nuggets’ 131-115 win at home on Tuesday to take a 3-2 series lead over the Clippers. Murray surpassed Nikola Jokic for the most 40-point playoff games in Nuggets history with his sixth. The feat was even more impressive considering the fact that Murray only made it to the free throw line one time during the entire contest. He’s the only player in NBA playoff history to score 43+ points with one free throw attempt or less.

“He was born for this,” Nuggets interim coach David Adelman said postgame.

Murray looks to replicate his Game 5 performance to close out the Clippers in Game 6 on Thursday. The rested Oklahoma City Thunder await the winner of this series after wrapping up their own series and sweeping the Memphis Grizzlies.
