De’Aaron Fox made his first appearance in the NBA All-Star Game as a member of the Sacramento Kings. He will make his second as a representative of the San Antonio Spurs.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has chosen Fox as an injury replacement for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is out with a right calf strain. This year’s All-Star Game, featuring a three-team, round-robin tournament with a new U.S. vs. World format, will be held Sunday at Intuit Dome in Inglewood.
Two teams of American players, USA Stars and USA Stripes, will compete in 12-minute games along with one team of international players. The top two teams will advance to the championship game.
Fox will represent USA Stripes, which will be led by Spurs coach Mitch Johnson. The team also includes Stephen Curry, Donovan Mitchell, Kawhi Leonard, Brandon Ingram, LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Fox is averaging 19.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.3 steals for the Spurs (38-16), who have the second-best record in the Western Conference behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. Fox is shooting 48.4% from the field and 35.3% from 3-point range.
Fox started his career with the Kings after coming out of Kentucky as the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He made his first All-Star appearance in 2023. He was named Clutch Player of the Year in 2024.
Fox helped the Kings win 48 games to secure the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference in 2022-23, ending the longest playoff drought in NBA history after 16 consecutive losing seasons in Sacramento.
The Kings traded Fox to the Spurs a year ago in a three-team deal that brought Zach LaVine to Sacramento. In August, the Spurs signed Fox to a four-year, $223 million contract extension.
