Chris Paul’s 21-year NBA career has come to an end.
The legendary point guard announced his retirement after being waived by the Toronto Raptors. The NBA’s Rookie of the Year in 2005-06, Paul was a 12-time All-Star that was named to 11 All-NBA teams. A dogged defender, Paul was also voted to nine All-Defensive teams, leading the NBA in steals six different times.
The 40-year-old guard shared that he was calling it quits in a post on Instagram.
“This is it! After 21 years I’m stepping away from basketball,” Paul posted. “As I write this, it’s hard to really know what to feel, but for once — most people would be surprised — I don’t have the answer lol! But, mostly I’m filled with so much joy and gratitude! While this chapter of being an ‘NBA player’ is done, the game of basketball will be forever engrained in the DNA of my life.”
Paul was traded from the Clippers to the Raptors earlier this month in a salary-related, and he was released by Toronto on Friday.
