Alex Sarr is set to be sidelined for approximately two weeks due to a right hamstring strain, according to ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania.
With an official injury designation of right hamstring tightness, the 20-year-old French center was previously ruled out of a clash with the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena on Wednesday, the final outing for the Washington Wizards before the All-Star break.
According to the updated recovery timeline, the Bordeaux native will miss several games following the break and will be forced to sit out the 2026 Castrol Rising Stars. Although he was originally selected for Team T-Mac, the league will name a replacement shortly.
Washington Wizards center Alex Sarr has sustained a right hamstring strain and will miss approximately two weeks, sources tell ESPN. Sarr, one of three players averaging at least 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks per game this season, is now out for Friday’s Rising Stars game.

Over 41 appearances in his sophomore NBA journey, Sarr has shown significant progress on both ends of the floor. Specifically, he has averaged 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game, alongside 2.6 assists and 0.7 steals. During his rookie 2024-25 campaign, after being drafted with the second overall pick, he recorded 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 0.7 steals per contest.
At 14-39 and sitting last in the Eastern Conference standings, the Wizards are effectively eliminated from playoff contention. Consequently, exercising caution with player injuries during the final stretch of the season emerges as the most appropriate course of action, especially regarding Sarr, who is considered a cornerstone of the franchise’s future. This period of rest ensures that he can return at full strength to continue his impressive development as one of the league’s premier young rim protectors and versatile offensive threats.
