ROCK HILL — Winthrop’s men’s basketball team continued its win streak this week with victories over Longwood and Gardner-Webb, reaching 11 consecutive wins.

Winthrop Men’s Basketball

Winthrop 79, Longwood 74

Winthrop secured their tenth consecutive win this season against Longwood on Feb. 7. The game was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams with there being 14 total lead changes. Winthrop pulled away in the final few seconds of the game, securing another win in one of their longest win streaks.

The home win against Longwood brought their record for the season to 18-8.

Senior forward Tommy Kamarad took charge of the game with 15 points. Senior guard Kody Clouet was an important part of Winthrop’s defensive game with seven defensive rebounds. Senior guard Isaiah Wilson was also aided in the win with five assists.

Winthrop 103, Gardner-Webb 85

Winthrop dominated in their win against Gardner-Webb on the road on Feb. 12. Winthrop only allowed one lead change, and at one point was 23 points ahead of Gardner-Webb.

The win against Gardner-Webb brings Winthrop’s record to 19-8 and extends their win streak to 11. Their record in Big South conference is 11-1.

Senior guard Kareem Rozier put on a dominant offensive display with 33 total points. Senior center Logan Duncomb was effective on both offense and defense with six assists and 15 rebounds.

Men’s basketball’s next game is at home against the USC Upstate Spartans on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Winthrop 69, Gardner-Webb 72

In a close match, Winthrop fell to Gardner-Webb by three points in an away game on Feb. 7. Gardner-Webb led throughout the game but Winthrop rallied near the fourth quarter, falling just short of the comeback.

The loss against Gardner-Webb brought their record to 11-14.

Junior guard Amourie Porter was effective on offense with 26 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Cori Lard had six assists.

Winthrop 58, South Carolina Upstate 67

Winthrop suffered an upset loss a home game against USC Upstate on Feb. 11. The game was close in the first half, however USC Upstate broke away in the second half of the game to upset the Winthrop by nine.

The upset brought Winthrop’s record to 11-15. Their record in the Big South conference is now 4-8.

Sophomore guard Madison Ruff was an important piece of the offense with 17 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Ryiah Wilson had three assists.

Due to an altercation in the Feb. 4 game against High Point, Winthrop’s Tocarra Johnson has been suspended for eight games. She will not be able to play for the remainder of the women’s basketball season.

The women’s basketball team’s next game will be at home against the Longwood Lancers on Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
