The San Antonio Spurs’ decision to move on from Jeremy Sochan had been widely anticipated after the Texas franchise failed to find a trade partner before the deadline.

Just days later, the Spurs officially parted ways with the Polish forward, but in unexpected fashion.

Rather than dealing him, the team waived Sochan outright, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent and eliminating his restricted free agency status for this summer.

Within hours of the announcement, several teams expressed interest in the former teammate of Victor Wembanyama.

Ultimately, however, one of the Eastern Conference’s top contenders emerged victorious: the New York Knicks.

According to multiple reports, Sochan will join the Knicks following the All-Star break and remain with the team through the end of the season.

His arrival is expected to add depth and versatility to the rotation led by head coach Mike Brown as New York gears up for a potential deep playoff run.

Selected ninth overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, Sochan had fallen out of favor this season and was no longer a significant part of Mitch Johnson’s plans in San Antonio.

Limited opportunities and the absence of a contract extension agreement prior to the start of the campaign led Sochan to request that the organization explore options for his departure in the days leading up to the trade deadline.

This season, the Polish forward has posted the lowest numbers of his NBA career, averaging just 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 28 appearances.
