In a round-up of NBA rumors, Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reported that the Portland Trail Blazers may be interested in signing veteran point guard Chris Paul.

The Blazers are among the teams that could have an interest in Chris Paul should he not return to the Spurs, a source told Hoops Wire.

Portland GM Joe Cronin has suggested he likes the roster as currently constructed, though those around the league have said the Blazers would like to add a veteran guard to mentor Scoot Henderson. Paul is not expected to be back in San Antonio.

The 40-year-old point guard has moved around to multiple different teams in the last few seasons, acting as more of a mentor to younger guards. Most recently in San Antonio, Paul played with the 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle.

Playing with a mentor of Paul’s stature and experience could be a great way for Scoot Henderson to take the next step in his NBA career. Henderson averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in his second season. He also turned the ball over 2.7 times a game. Paul could help the third-year guard improve his ball security and playmaking, things that Paul has exceled in during his 20-year career.

If Paul leaves San Antonio, going to a team with a young core that he could help mentor would be a major possibility. However, Paul could also go to a team more ready to compete to give himself another chance at an NBA Finals win.
