He continues to defy father time.
In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 124-104 win over the Dallas Mavericks last night, guard LeBron James became the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double at 41 years old and 44 days. He finished the night with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.
Hall of Famer Karl Malone previously held the record when he recorded a triple-double on Nov. 28, 2003, when he was 40 years old and 127 days — also with the Lakers.
“I guess I’m more appreciative of moments like this in my career, understanding where I’m at, at the later stage of my journey,” James said. “You definitely take it in a little bit more.”

Not only is James the oldest player to record a triple-double, but of the top 15 oldest ages to record a triple-double, 14 of them are from James, according to Yahoo Sports. Furthermore, last night’s triple-double is the 123rd of James’ career, fifth on the all-time leaderboard. He is behind Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić, Hall of Fame Oscar Robertson and Lakers legend Magic Johnson
“I don’t take for granted how good he is,” Redick said. “I recognize that on a daily basis. It’s really just the day-to-day professionalism and care factor that he exhibits that is the most remarkable thing.”
