It’s been like that for at least a decade, and the NBA has tried all sorts of changes to the format and events to make players and fans care the way they used to.
This is a relatively minor “problem” on the list of issues facing the NBA, which include tanking, injuries and the increased presence of gambling money and influence. But it is one that a lot of people have spent a lot of energy on.
Damian Lillard made the answer obvious on Saturday afternoon at Intuit Dome: When star players actually participate in the events and care about winning them, people will care about it.
