The new-look Washington Wizards travel to Brooklyn to take on the Nets on Saturday, with this season’s series tied 1-1.

The Brooklyn Nets look to end their three-game slide when they host the Washington Wizards on Saturday afternoon. These two are holding out for a lottery pick with the Nets (13-37) holding a game advantage over the Wizards (14-36). Even though the Wizards are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, they made arguably two of the biggest moves of the season, acquiring Trae Young and Anthony Davis before the trade deadline on Thursday. Neither team has played for the Wizards yet, but it is interesting to see this duo come together, albeit in Washington, after rumors that they might pair up for the Los Angeles Lakers a while back. Davis is expected to be back in a month while he continues to deal with a finger injury. D’Angelo Russell has also joined this team from the Dallas Mavericks, but he is not expected to play while dealing with an illness. The biggest news out of the Nets’ camp before the trade deadline was that Michael Porter Jr. was going to be traded, but that never came to fruition. Washington tied the season series back on Jan. 2 with a 119-99 victory over the Nets, with Justin Champagnie scoring a season-high 20 points.

Washington is coming off a huge upset on the road, beating the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons 126-117 on Thursday. Will Riley scored 20 points, and Sharife Cooper was right behind with another 18. The Wizards were still able to hold off the Pistons even though Cade Cunningham scored a game-high 30 points. Justin Champagnie and Tristan Vukecevic each added 14 points, while the Wizards have won four of six after a nine-game slide. Washington also won with only 10 players available, and Detroit had won five of its last six games. The momentum of beating the best team in the East alone should make the Wizards the favorite against the Nets, even on the road.

Brooklyn has also lost 10 of its last 11 games after dropping to the Orlando Magic on the road 118-98 on Thursday. Orlando’s Jalen Suggs put up his first career triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. Desmond Bane scored a team-high 23 points while Paolo Banchero was right behind with 22 points. Brooklyn’s Egor Demin scored a game-high 26 points. Really, the only news for the Nets from the NBA Trade Deadline was that the team waived Cam Thomas, making him a free agent. Regardless of what these teams have done by the deadline, they’ll continue to keep building through the draft.
