Kevin Durant is back in the headlines for something that has nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with a burner account.
The Houston Rockets star has never been shy about sharing his opinion. It’s just always shared through burners, it seems. After a series of leaked screenshots allegedly revealed messages from a now-exposed burner account, it’s pretty clar that the dude just loves talking shit about anyone and everyone.
If authentic, the messages show Kevin Durant criticizing teammates, former teammates, coaches, and even responding to political accusations in ways that have fans once again questioning his relationship with social media.
This isn’t new territory for Durant. But the content of these latest leaks is what has people talking.
Kevin Durant Allegedly Trash Talks Teammates in Leaked DMs
The screenshots that began circulating online appear to show Durant speaking bluntly about fellow NBA players in private group chats.
One of the most widely shared messages allegedly reads:
“I can’t trust Jabari to make a f**kin shot or get a stop.”
The message continued with KD saying Jabari Smith is, “lowkey a retard,” which is just objectively hilarious. I don’t care what you say.
Other leaked messages show frustration with team play and decision-making. In one exchange, the burner account says:
“Ima turn the ball over with this shitty ass team. Idgaf. Your franchise player can’t shoot or defend. That’s a wayyyyyyy bigger issue than my turnovers. Remember, these guys are your future.”
The tone throughout the leaks suggests frustration with teammates and team direction — something fans don’t typically expect to see aired out, even privately.
Kevin Durant’s Comments About Devin Booker and the Suns
Some of the most controversial messages allegedly involve Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns.
In one leaked DM, the burner account refers to Devin Booker and former head coach Frank Vogel as:
“Two dictators… Stalin and Hitler. Mussolini and Kim Jong Un.”
Another message reportedly states:
“The Suns are my team when we lose and Book’s team when we win.”
I mean, great stuff all around here from KD. An historian at heart, Kevin Durant clearly sees the parallels between his former teammate and coach and two of the worst dictators of all-time.
In the midst of his rage, Durant actually showed Ben Simmons some love. It was a backhanded compliment, but hey, I’ll take any Simmons positivity I can get these days.
“I swear I miss Ben Simmons. Least that n*gga would give me the ball.”
The Drone Investment Exchange
Beyond basketball, another screenshot that gained traction shows the burner responding to a post claiming Kevin Durant was making money off Israeli drone investments during the Gaza conflict.
After someone tweeted, “Kevin Durant is making money off the genocide in Gaza,” the burner allegedly replied:
“If they need drones!! We got ya.”
That message quickly added fuel to an already volatile online discussion.
Not Kevin Durant’s First Burner Controversy
For anyone who has followed Durant’s career closely, this situation feels familiar.
Kevin Durant has previously admitted to using burner accounts to defend himself and interact with fans. Years ago, he acknowledged operating anonymous profiles and later explained on The Pivot podcast that he uses social media to speak freely and connect with the basketball community. He said he doesn’t intend to create hate, but rather expresses how he feels in the moment.
However, this latest round of leaks has reignited criticism. Personally, I could care less. The NBA is the most boring professional sport there is, especially during its All-Star weekend. We need some juice, and if it has to come in the form of a Kevin Durant burner, so be it.
At this point, Kevin Durant’s relationship with social media is almost as much a part of his public identity as his jump shot. Whether these screenshots are fully authentic or not, the controversy has once again placed him at the center of online debate — and far away from the hardwood.
As always, the internet never forgets.
