But James has refused to confirm whether the 2025-26 NBA season will be his last.

The 41-year-old is in his record-breaking 23rd season in the league.

He has made 36 appearances for the Lakers so far this season.

James has remained a scoring threat as he averages 22 points per game.

This is only a slight drop of two points per game from his average output last year.

Small forward James has continued to drop retirement hints as many become convinced that his time in the NBA will soon draw to a close.

James has already withdrawn his name from contention for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California.

The NBA legend sparked further retirement rumors by scheduling an individual press conference during the weekend of festivities.

However, he has made it clear that his mind is not yet made up with a defiant six-word statement to the media.

“When I know, you guys will know,” James said at the 2026 NBA All-Star Game.

“I want to live. I don’t know. I have no idea. I want to live, that’s all.”

James’ statement comes after extending his All-Star appearance record with a 22nd straight showing.

He is making up for lost time after a slow start to the 2025-26 NBA campaign.

The veteran missed a significant chunk of action after suffering from sciatica during preseason.

James remained influential on the sidelines before finally making his season debut against the Utah Jazz in November.

His Lakers lead the Pacific Division with 33 wins from 54 games this season.

But they sit fifth in the overall Western Conference behind the 42-win Oklahoma City Thunder.

James is set to return to action for the Lakers against the LA Clippers on Friday, February 20.
